**PLEASE NOTE VENUE: Blocker, Norfolk, YMCA

Format for the tournament will be communicated to the team captains on the day of the
tournament. We suggest all the Captains to be present at the Court at 8:00am sharp on April 29th, 2023. Once the meeting is done and rules explained it will be team captain’s
responsibility to communicate the format and rules to the team.

Prelims

  • Team that serves scores a point on opponents fault.
  • Game will be played to 11 points or 11 minutes whichever comes first. First team
    to reach 11 points within 11 minutes will be declared the winner.
  • In the event the time expires, then the team with the highest points will be declared
    the winner.
  • In the event the points are tied then the game will be declare by a single serve
    point, service to be done by the team that won coin toss. (Sudden Death).
  • There is no requirement of difference of 2 points to win the game.
  • During Sudden Death, team can reset the players as they deem fit.
  • @ 8 Minute mark after dead ball, Official timeout will be call by referee. At that time both
    teams will have 20 seconds to reset rotation.

Qualifying
Round

  • This round will be a knockout round with a single game
  • Team that serves scores a point on opponents fault.
  • Game will be played to 11 points or 15 minutes whichever comes first. First team
    to reach 11 points within 15 minutes will be declared the winner.
  • In the event the time expires, then the team with the highest points will be declared
    the winner.
  • In the event the points are tied then the game will be declare by a single serve
    point, service to be done by the team that won coin toss. (Sudden Death).

Semi Final

  • This round will be played for best of three games.
  • Team that serves scores a point on opponents fault.
  • Game will be played to 11 points or 15 minutes whichever comes first. First team to
    reach 11 points within 15 minutes will be declared the winner.
  • In the event the time expires, then the team with the highest points will be declared
    the winner.
  • In the event the points are tied then the game will be declare by a single serve point,
    service to be done by the team that won coin toss. (Sudden Death).
  • There is no requirement of difference of 2 points to win the game.

    both teams will have 20 seconds to reset rotation.

Finals

  • This round will be played for best of One game.
  • The scoring for this round will be based on service points. The first team to reach 11
    points with a difference of 2 points will be declared the winner. In the event 2 pts
    difference is not achieved then the first team to reach 15 points will be declared the
    winner.
  • There is 25 minute time limit in this game but management can overrule depending
    on the situation.
  • 1 timeout each team. During timeout both teams will have opportunity to reset the
    rotation.

General Rules

Coin Toss

  • A single coin toss will be conducted and the winner of the toss will have the option to make a
    choice of one of the two options. Either serve first or decide which side of the court they will
    receive the serve.

Serve

  • Server must serve from behind the restraining line until ball crosses the net.
  • Ball may be served underhand or overhand
  • Ball must be clearly visible to the opponents before and at the time of the serve.
  • Serve ball should not touch the net.
  • Setting or attacking a serve is NOT permitted
  • Serve touching the boundary line is considered as IN

Rotation

  • A team will rotate each time they win the serve.
  • Players must rotate in a clockwise manner
  • There shall only be 6 players playing on each side.
  • Team can substitute a player during the game, utilizing timeout. Substitute player must fill the same position of the player being replaced.
  • A team has two 20 seconds timeouts during the course of the game.

Playing the Game (Volley)

  • Maximum of 3 hits per side
  • Player will not hit the ball twice in succession (A block is not considered a HIT)
  • Ball may be played off the net during a volley.
  • A ball touching the boundary line is good including the serve.
  • A legal hit is contact with the ball by a player body above and including the waist, which does not allow the ball to visibly come to a rest.
  • If two or more players contact the ball simultaneously, it is considered one play and the players involved may not participate in the next play.
  • A player must not block, must not attack a serve, or must not finger a serve.
  • NO Switching allowed.

Basic Violations

  • Stepping on or over the line on a serve
  • Failure to serve the ball over the net successfully
  • Hitting the ball illegally (Carrying, Palming, Throwing, etc)
  • Touching of the net with any part of the body while ball is in play. If the ball is driven into the net with such force that it causes the net to contact an opposing player, no foul will be called, and the ball shall continue to be in play.
  • Reaching over the net, except under these conditions:
  • When executing a follow-through
  • When blocking a ball, which is in the opponent’s court but is being returned (the blocker must not contact the ball until after the opponent who is attempting to return the ball makes contact) except to block the third play.
  • Reaching under the net (if it interferes with the ball or opposing player).
  • Failure to serve in the correct order.

Points Table

  • 4 points for a win and 0 point for the lost.
  • 2 bonus points for win with difference of 7 points or more.
  • 1 bonus points for win with difference of 3 – 6points.
  • -2 points for failure to report on time for games.
  • -2 points for failure to report on time for Refereeing responsibilities.

Code, Penalties

  • Organizing committee reserves the right to change or modify any rules before the start of the championship.
  • Any issues or complaints must be presented to the Organizing committee right away. All decisions made thereafter by the Organizing Committee will be full and final.
  • All team captains must fill out the application form in detail and sign it. By signing the form the
    captain agrees to have read this document and will abide by what is stated in it.
  • Playing any unregistered or other registered team player will result in immediate disqualification from the tournament. Executive committee reserves right to disqualify either one or both teams in violation.
  • Using unnecessary foul language or getting into arguments with the opposition will result in -1 point of the point table, 2nd violation in any game will result in -2 points of the point table and 3rd violation will result into immediate disqualification from the tournament.
  • Any kind of unnecessary abuse/argument of/with the Referee will result in -2 points in the game. 4th violation of the same will result in immediate disqualification from the tournament.
  • Threat of violence or actual violence will result in immediate disqualification from the tournament
  • All games played or not played by disqualified teams will be awarded to the opposition.

Fees

**Each team must pay $50 as the registration fee – This is exclusive to Volleyball and is separate from the other adult contests.
